How many job seekers are ghosted? The numbers, with sources
How many job seekers are ghosted depends on who counted and what they counted. Here are three sources, each with who asked, where, how many and when.
| Who asked or counted | Where | How many | When | What they found | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Greenhouse, in a survey of workers | US, UK and Germany | 2,500 workers; the 61% is the share of the job seekers among them | Published 10 December 2024 | 61% of job seekers said they had been ghosted after a job interview. | Greenhouse, 2024 State of Job Hunting report |
| The consultancy Ballisager, with the polling firm Voxmeter | Reported in Denmark | Not stated in the reports | Reported April 2026 | Just under 47% of those asked said they had been left without any reply to an application for an advertised job. Applications, not interviews. | Voxmeter: Mange unge ansøgere får ikke svar på jobansøgninger |
| Glassdoor Economic Research, counting the interview reviews people left on Glassdoor; written up by HR Dive | Glassdoor; the analysis covers US job seekers | Reviews submitted in October 2023; the wider analysis covers more than 1 million interview reviews | October 2023; HR Dive wrote it up on 31 October 2023 | 3.1% of interview reviews submitted in October 2023 mentioned ghosting. Reviews that mention it, not people who were ghosted. | HR Dive: Employer ghosting has more than doubled in recent years, Glassdoor data shows |
Why do the numbers differ?
They count different things: workers who say they were ghosted after an interview, people who say an application went unanswered, and interview reviews that mention ghosting. So they do not add up, and none of them is a count of companies.
These numbers are about job seekers in general, never about one company. For a single company, see what its candidates shared.
